Crop residue was converted into activated coal at continuous pyrolysis plant

Section: News

Nutshell wasteA test run of pistachio waste to activated coal was carried out successfully at the IPEC production site at the end of June 2017. The process was executed in two stages.  Firstly, the nutshell waste was thermally decomposed in oxygen-free environment in TDP-2-200 pyrolysis plant. Secondly, the carbon residue was sent to the activated coal reactor for steam treatment with water vapor at a temperature of 900-1100 °C.  The process of the second stage was carried out for 15 minutes.

As a result, 700 kg of crop residue was converted into:

  • 230 kg of activated coal;
  • 225 m3 of pyrolysis gas;
  • 30 kg of liquid fuel;
  • 145 kg of industrial water.

The main end product – activated coal – was sent to the laboratory for physico-chemical testing.
