Acid tar is toxic waste aroused from the oil refining by addition of sulfuric acid. The treatment of acid sludge with high sulfur concentration (in some cases up to 70%) is a complex process. The modern technologies proposed for the neutralization of this hazardous industrial waste are associated with equipment corrosion, low financial value, and production of substandard product as output.

The pilot runs of the plant were carried out by the request of petrochemical companies at IPEC industrial site to demonstrate the processing of acid tar with 25% concentration of sulfuric acid.
